European Research Council awards JADBio CEO €150K grant for research commercialisation

The European Research Council (ERC) recently announced the Proof of Concept Grant winners, who will share the amount of 25M euros to take cutting edge research closer to market. Each one of the 166 grantees will receive €150,000. This top-up funding will help them bridge the gap between the results of their pioneering research and the early phases of its commercialisation. The grants are part of the EU’s research and innovation program, Horizon Europe.

We’re proud our CEO at JADBio, Professor Ioannis Tsamardinos, is one of 166 researchers funded by the ERC. Dr. Tsamardinos is a  Professor at the Computer Science Department at the University of Crete, with over 20 years of service in academia and applied sciences and over 130 publications in international journals, conferences, and books. He has an astounding 9,000 combined scientific citations to date, with over 1,000 in 2020 alone. His work on AI planning and temporal reasoning was applied to the NASA deep space I software.

“It’s wonderful to see that frontier research has the capacity to generate discoveries that can be quickly put into practice. Let’s not forget that there is no applied research without basic research feeding the pipeline first – and that very valuable innovations spring from all disciplines, from the physical and life sciences to the social sciences and humanities.”

President of the European Research Council Prof. Maria Leptin

The ERC’s mission is to encourage the highest quality research in Europe through competitive funding and to support investigator-driven frontier research across all fields on the basis of scientific excellence.
