JADBio Lecture at DBMI, School of Medicine, University of Pittsburgh
The Department of Biomedical Informatics, University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine, is committed to improving biomedical research and clinical care through the innovative application of informatics. Currently funded projects explore areas such as genomic and proteomic data mining, natural language processing, machine learning, and biosurveillance.
Ioannis Tsamardinos, CEO at JADBio AutoML, gave an online special lecture titled “Just Add Data Bio: Constructing an Automated Machine Learning Platform for Biomedical Data”, on April 30th, 2021.
Automated Machine Learning (AutoML) promises to democratize Machine Learning (ML) for non-expert analysts, boost the productivity of expert analysts, reduce methodological analysis errors, and improve the replicability, reproducibility, and provenance of analyses.

In his talk, the Professor presented the construction, design, and novel algorithms for the JADBio AutoML platform, standing for Just Add Data Bio, specifically designed for molecular and life science data. JADBio can scale up to hundreds of thousands of features, while accommodating for small sample sizes. It can correctly estimate out-of-sample predictive performance, optimize classification thresholds, while offering many more functionalities to a biomedical practitioner. Several case studies were shown.
